Continuing the trend he started with El Mariel, Pitbull references Cuban immigration tactics with the title of this third LP, The Boatlift. This is far from a political lecture, however. Jam-packed with guests and produced by Pitbull faves like Lil Jon and Mr. Collipark, the record overflows with hedonistic crunk anthems squarely aimed at dancefloors. "Go Girl" is a bumping bit of minimalist club fodder, while the frisky single "The Anthem" contains the album's most lasting hook. For all its decadent ambition, though, The Boatlift feels low-key next to the bangers that would bring Pitbull his biggest success on his subsequent albums.
