Immediately after her debut, 26-year-old Pitty, from the state of Bahia, was dubbed (by some of the media) Brazil's new rock sensation and the natural heir to aging rock legends like Rita Lee. Although the comparisons between Pitty and the legends and pioneers of Brazilian rock were very much exaggerated, Pitty has once again shown that she clearly is a talented songwriter and a charismatic performer with Anacrônico, the follow-up to her successful debut. She has carved out a well-deserved place as one of Brazil's leading rock stars, with her fan base mostly among the country's teenagers. Just as on Admirável Chip Novo, there is nothing revolutionary about the music here. It is all about basic, heavy rock without unnecessary embellishments, but with its own genuine style and sound. The hit "Memórias," with its raging guitars, and the calmer yet powerful "Déjà Vu" and "Brinquedo Torto" are excellent rock songs, virtually vibrating with energy. Other fine tracks that stand out are the hardcore punk "Aahhh...!" and the mildly political "Quem Vai Queimar?" Admirável Chip Novo was a strong and promising debut by this hard-rocking Bahia girl, and Anacrônico brings more of the same, only better. ~ Philip Jandovský, Rovi
