[Edit]On the cover photo for their 2012 debut album, Remembering You, Elle and Shealeen Puckett don’t seem like sisters on first glance. One has dark brown hair and an olive complexion; the other is a fair-skinned redhead. But once they start singing those magical sibling harmonies, there’s no denying their next-of-kinship. “Clean Getaway” opens with the sort of girl-next-door, country-folk whimsy that made Taylor Swift a household name following her first album. The following “Wonder” is a sunny little serenade that moves with a skip-along rhythm, a playful melody, and flirtatious lyrics that convey the excitement of finding out that your summer crush is reciprocated. Similarly, when Shealeen croons “I think I’m falling in love with you” over jangling 12-string electric guitars, it’s easy to imagine an entire population of teenage boys gushing. The standout tune “Apricots” matches those gossamer sisterly harmonies with the weeping notes of a pedal steel, cellos, and a banjo to make for a gorgeous hit-in-waiting. Conversely, the stripped-down “Your Song” plays with minimal accompaniment, letting those harmonies ring out ever so beautifully.
