[Edit]Omni's 2008 two-fer The Cold Hard Facts of Life/Soul of a Convict is trumped somewhat by the release of Bear Family's The Cold Hard Facts of Life, a triple-disc set that contains both of these albums plus four other full LPs from Wagoner's operatic melodramatic heyday. For hardcore Wagoner fans, it's best to turn to that set as it has all of Porter's classic '60s LPs — including full albums that are the source material for the bonus tracks here — but for those listeners whose interest doesn't run as deep (or whose wallet isn't as fat), either this two-fer or Omni's Rubber Room compilation is the best way to hear the best of Wagoner's florid side.
