There were several all-female rock bands that followed the Runaways' lead in the '80s — Girlschool, Vixen, Phantom Blue, etc. — but one that often gets lost in the shuffle is Precious Metal. Like most of these bands with the exception being England's Girlschool, Precious Metal hailed from Los Angeles, and specialized in a melodic rock sound (with a trace of heavy metal). Having only released a handful of albums during the mid- to late '80s, it's becoming increasingly hard to locate any Precious Metal CDs. Come 1998, the Renaissance label issued a 21-track compilation that spanned the group's entire career, What You See Is What You Get: The Very Best of Precious Metal. Included are such made-for-mainstream-radio tracks as "This Girl" and "Emily," which show that if Vixen made it big during the late '80s, there's no reason why Precious Metal shouldn't have immediately followed up their success.
