What a way to bring in the millennium. A Style of My Own is a beautiful record — Pree's voice is unique and enchanting, and can warm the coldest heart. She elevates Prince's "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and Maxine Brown's "Oh No Not My Baby," taking both to new plateaus. Captivating romancers like "Lady in Red," "You've Gotten to Me," and "I'm Feeling in Love" are lush and silky, like vintage Smokey Robinson or Ronald Isley. Even the few midtempo and upbeat tracks float like musical bars of Ivory. Pree overdubbed most of the background vocals but gets help on some from Carolyn Crawford, Dee Dee McNeil, and Farrah, Haven, and Blair McMurray. The album also features an ace production job by Clay McMurray and a stunning cover photo by Dan Guttierez.
