[Edit]Project Pitchfork had not quite discovered their sound yet when they made Io, but the path to their discovery makes for equally interesting music. Starting things with the Skinny Puppy-esque title track, the band quickly moves into poppier directions, bringing to mind mid-80's Psychic TV with its melodic feel and sound. Although they do not get as adventurous as they would in the future, they may have had a stronger impression of what makes a good pop industrial song. But credit goes to Project Pitchfork for not relying on simplistic synth riffs to carry every song, it is a habit that sunk many of their contemporaries in the crowded 90's electro-industrial scene. This may not be as good as what they go on to make, but there are several excellent tracks to be found on Io and the band would be very important to the darkwave sound that Metropolis Records was cultivating at the time.
