Without a doubt one of the most explosive and game-changing debut albums in hip-hop history, Yo! Bum Rush the Show introduced the world to the power of Public Enemy, an unstoppable force of nature that continues to put out new records 25 years later. Produced by the inimitable Bomb Squad, this album features beats unlike anything that'd been heard before, with crazy layered samples, ferocious drums, and wild scratches galore. Chuck D and Flavor Flav go absolutely nuts on the mic, taking to task wack emcees, ignorant racists, baseheads, and suckers of every stripe, promising revolution while also getting the party started properly. Though Public Enemy's next few releases (It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back and Fear of a Black Planet) would be even more advanced lyrically and sonically, this is the jump-off that started it all, remaining a timeless classic in its own right. Everything on here's awesome, but "Public Enemy No. 1," "Miuzi Weighs a Ton," and "Sophisticated Bitch" are highlights.
