Like such artists as Rachel Lampa, Bethany Dillon, and Britt Nicole, 16-year-old singer/songwriter Rachel Chan speaks to the hopes and heartaches of her peers while delivering uplifting contemporary pop sounds. As the daughter of popular author/speaker Francis Chan, Rachel brings a certain amount of family notoriety to this project. Her father makes a guest appearance (as a rapper, no less!) on “Prove It,” a bopping tune about responsible dating. But Chan definitely earns her own way here, singing with grown-up confidence and displaying a smart, insightful touch as a lyricist. Buoyant tracks like “Still Singing” and “As Close” balance well with slower numbers like “You Must Love Me” and “Resting in You.” The album's mood ranges from playful fare like “Lame” (a laundry list of Chan’s pet peeves) to praise songs like “Show Me More.” “Ready and Waiting” stands out for its portrayal of the hard choices resulting from a spiritually conflicted relationship.
