The second of two Chaz Jazz LPs featuring pianist Ralph Sutton and cornetist Ruby Braff is a quartet date with bassist Jack Lesberg and drummer Gus Johnson. They perform a dozen swing and Dixieland standards with creativity and plenty of surprising moments. Highlights include "Shoe Shine Boy," "Sweethearts On Parade," "Big Butter and Egg Man," and a heated "I'm Crazy 'Bout My Baby." Several of the songs are taken slower than usual, revealing some inner beauty that is usually hidden. Worth searching for, as are all of the hard-to-find Chaz albums.
