Rammstein’s electronic-infused metal is considered so pioneering that the Berlin band is credited with inventing a new genre: Neue Deutsche Härte (translation: New German Hardness). Sequenced nonchronologically, Made in Germany (1995-2011) celebrates 16 years of the sextet’s recordings and gives fans one new track (“Mein Land,” a riff-heavy rocker with muscled post-grunge guitar crunch and hard-driving rhythms). “Engel,” from Rammstein’s 1998 sophomore album, Sehnsucht, opens with a spooky sampled human whistle before pummeling drums and bass go head-to-head with mechanized industrial sounds. Over this, stalwart singer Till Lindemann duets with the gauzy Christiane “Bobo” Hebold. “Links 2 3 4” is a response to false allegations of fascism that were directed at Rammstein; the translated lyrics reveal that the band identifies as politically liberal. The band’s jab at the U.S.A., “Amerika,” is an interesting standout, especially with the refrain “We are living in America / Coca-Cola, Wonderbra.”
