[Edit]As Rapoon, Robin Storey creates dark ambience. In fact, it sometimes borders on malevolent minimalism. The Fires of the Borderlands is a set of deeply eerie atmospheres with experimental textures and frightening timbres. The mechanical repetition adds to the mystery. Deep drones alternate with sinister synth washes to heighten the mystique. Storey has left no room for escape; the soundscapes surround and enclose listeners tightly. The fires referenced in the title are the fires of hell, or, at the very least, the fires of fitful existentialism. This is not a CD for the weak of heart. It will appeal to fans of Lustmord, Jeff Greinke, Stephen Philips, and Isomorph.
