Details
[Edit]Clarinetist Raymond Burke played New Orleans jazz and Dixieland throughout his life. This LP has two of his finest sessions, both recorded Nov. 12, 1953. Featured along with Burke are trombonist Jack Delaney, either Thomas Jefferson (who has two vocals) or Alvin Alcorn on trumpet, Roy Zimmerman or Stanley Mendelson on piano, Phil Darois or Sherwood Mangiapane on bass, and Johnny Edwards or Abbie Brunies on drums. The strong frontline (with both of the trumpeters making an impact) inspires Burke to some of his best playing. Unlike some of the later revival bands of the 1960s, each of these musicians is technically skilled within the style and in tune. Highlights include "Big Butter and Egg Man," "Over the Waves," and "Who's Sorry Now."
