Relative Ash's 2000 debut, Our Time With You..., is an album of unprecedented musicianship, crafting searing metalcore guitars with emotionally draining vocals that range from dramatic sincerity to gut-splitting despair. Relative Ash is a band that embodies talent; each musician is keenly adept at producing exquisite blasts of raw passion, unleashing music that is as touching as it is tumultuous. Junior Antunez and Carlos Salazar's amazing guitar proficiency embraces the listener and leaves the soul beaten and bloody. John Salazar shows awe-inspiring skill behind the drum kit, pounding out brutal beats and then coating the songs with percussion perfection. This amounts to an unbelievable debut, as all these musicians' combined efforts exceed any expectation, and are truly glamorous. Marcus Harrington's deeply personal lyrics add painful realism to Relative Ash's songs, and his screams bear overwhelming intensity. As Harrington vents his anguish and frustration through his music, one can feel this pain and can sympathize with his plight. Unfortunately, Harrington also proves to be a stumbling block to many listeners, as his vocals carry a strong resemblance to Chino Moreno from the Deftones.
