Saxophonist Remi Bolduc is one of the most active saxophonists on the Montreal jazz scene. He plays with intensity and fervor, and has an adept sense of phrasing that is derived from his deep knowledge of the technical aspects of playing, as well as his talents for composition. Cote d'Ecoute, is a trip down memory lane straight into the hearts of two or three generations of Quebecois. The familiar melodies of "Rue des Pignons," and "Bobino" are sure bets that listeners will not remain unmoved. These melodies, which Remi Bolduc has revamped with heavy elements of jazz, rise from the threshold of such jazz influences as Steve Coleman, whom Bolduc studied with in New York. Joined by John Roney on piano and Sheila Hannigan on cello, Cote d'Ecoute is a brilliant display of classical/jazz fusion, free and avant-garde improvisations, Canadian television theme songs, and the exceptional imprint of a very talented musical trio.
