Details
[Edit]Nashville's Reno Bo previously played bass for Moony Suzuki and the Strokes' Albert Hammond. Anyone who might by happenstance listen to Big Star's box set before Happenings and Other Things (featuring one song produced by Adam Schlesinger of Ivy and Fountains of Wayne) could momentarily mistake Reno Bo on Happenings for Big Star. That's the lofty milieu that Bo and company dole out on his debut, even if he's a couple Tennessee road hours and 37 years removed from his Memphis forebears. Happenings primarily deals in '70s big-guitar power pop, with his Alex Chilton/Posies/Matthew Sweet-like voice and great harmonies. The boss, big, and bold "Higher Tonight" (which has a similar guitar lick as the Chameleons' "Nostalgia") and the standout beautifully piano-cooled "Off Your Back" are two particular gems. What a sleeper. ~ Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover, Rovi
