Details
[Edit]Rhonda Vincent has been putting out excellent bluegrass albums for so long now that it’s easy to take her work for granted. That would be a mistake, because she always has a few variations on her tradition-rooted sound to offer each time out and Good Thing Going is a particularly well-realized effort. Vincent contributes a number of self-penned songs with a personal slant, including the wedding tune “I Give All My Love to You” (a duet with IIIrd Tyme Out’s Russell Moore) and the love-affirming title number. Vincent’s bell-clear vocals and vigorous mandolin work shine on galloping workouts like “Hit Parade of Love” and “Who’s Cryin’ Baby.” She steps away from bluegrass turf on the acoustic swing number “World’s Biggest Fool,” then embraces the timeless yearning of “The Water Is Wide,” sharing vocals with country star Keith Urban. “Bluegrass Saturday Night” offers a valentine to her faithful live audience. Vincent’s band, the Rage, simmers and soars with down-home finesse throughout the album. Packed with strong tunes and stellar playing, Good Thing Going is very good indeed.
