Details
[Edit]A three-woman lineup, an electronics-reliant sound that bounces from techno to hip-hop to post-punk-inspired indie, and lyrics that are often steeped in gender politics guarantee comparisons to Chicks On Speed, Le Tigre, and most of the female-led Rough Trade bands of the late '70s and early '80s. These comparisons turn out to be fitting throughout I Am Disco. What works to the German trio's advantage is that they're fueled by whims, rather than irony or pretense. Like those before them, Rhythm King & Her Friends realize that you can be serious and fun at once and make party music that can be enjoyed on a deeper level.
