Details
[Edit]This unusual date has Rick Fay (who is heard on clarinet, soprano, and tenor) beginning each selection by reading some of his poetry. His writings are heartfelt, often witty (particularly "My Ultimate Nightmare" which has him being pursued by both a train and bagpipes!) and never dull. Fay pays tribute to Sidney Bechet, Dixieland, Pee Wee Russell, Barney Bigard, a photographer friend, and the jazz lifestyle, among other topics. His readings are brief and precede him jamming a variety of songs with a quintet that includes pianist Johnny Varro. The balance between poetry and hot jazz works quite well and Fay is heard throughout in prime form. A memorable effort.
