Roadside Monument touch many musical areas as a trio on their record I Am the Day of Current Taste. These songs clock in at epic times, moving from emo to remedial math to straight-ahead rock, perhaps crossing a Regulator Watts style with Rodan or A Minor Forest. The first half of the record has many dramatic, moody dynamic and tempo changes sprinkled with math. The builds in the middle of the songs showcase the drummer's sense of timing. The vocals whine with the music, creating a tension. The second half of the record picks up in ferocity, but still rides the middle of the road, not standing out in any one direction. There exists a wonderful dissonance in the heavy rocking parts, and the vocals work when two people are singing. This music seems like it would work best in a live performance situation. Roadside Monument have strayed a bit from the beauty of their previous recordings. The band ebb and flow in many categories, but never focus on what they do best on I Am the Day of Current Taste, keeping it heavy and instrumental.
