Though well-known in reggae circles, singer/songwriter/producer Robert Ffrench hasn't enjoyed too much recognition outside of the reggae scene. That's too bad, because his sharp tenor voice and his keen ear for a winning rhythm have combined to produce any number of high-quality singles over the years, many of which are collected here. Beginning with the radio hit "Bun & Cheese" (which he performs in combination with DJ Clement Irie) and including a couple of excellent duo efforts with rapper Heavy D as well as a number of equally fine solo performances, Yesterday and Today will make as good an introduction to Ffrench's art as one could ask for. Only on "Ragga Muffin" does Ffrench disappoint, and on that track the problem is less with his performance than with his really awful production. Highly recommended overall.
