[Edit]Ginnungagap is Robert Scott Thompson's most important CD. It is not his best nor his most accessible. Thompson's compositional versatility and flexibility have allowed him to proliferate in numerous styles. This CD ties it all together with echoes of electronic ambience, avant-garde surrealism, experimental computer music, and eclectic pop music. Thompson also injects a very subtle Celtic overtone into this disc. Only very deep listeners will be able to hear it. At that, the listener must be aware of the influence to hear it. It is there. The combination of those five styles qualifies this as an essential CD under the umbrella genre of electronic-ambient. Thompson's intricate arrangements and delicate treatments pull the styles together. The diverse overtones combine to give the CD a new and fresh feeling and a vibrant sound. Thus, the CD earns a five-star rating in the ambient, new age, and avant-garde genres. Listeners will enjoy this disc. Deep listeners will embrace it.
