The Rockin' Berries were one British band of the British Invasion era that never invaded the U.S., perhaps because their biggest hits, "He's in Town" and "Poor Man's Son," were covers of songs that had been in the American charts already (by the Tokens and the Reflections, respectively). Both of those hits are on this 14-track best-of, which does not contain the Rockin' Berries' four other U.K. chart entries, but does find them performing a range of material that includes the Jacques Brel number "Jackie" and a cover of "Touch Me in the Morning." Such selections suggest the Rockin' Berries' goal of being all-around entertainers and not necessarily rockers, a goal they achieved on the British club circuit after their brief run of hits in the mid-‘60s. Interested Americans might reference such similar stateside acts as the Four Seasons and the Buckinghams, as well as the aforementioned Tokens.
