[Edit]In Japan, there are many schools and style of playing the shakuhachi. Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin comes from the Jin Nyodo school and is one of the greatest Japanese shakuhachi masters of the 20th century who died almost 40 years ago. He proposes seven pieces of that tradition, plus one of his own compositions. What strikes with Seldin's playing is the simplicity of the style compared to the styles of some other great masters such as Watazumi-Do or Katsuya Yokoyama, for example, which are much more elaborate. There are no extra effects or technicality. This is pure sound in its unadorned form. What even add to this simplicity is that there is a minimum of reverb, adding to the purity and the quality of the sound. ~ Bruno DeschĂȘnes, Rovi
