Best known for his work with The Neptunes and Clipse, Philly emcee Rasco P Coldchain has seemingly been on the cusp of the big time for more than a decade now. Signed to Star Trak way back in 2000, he's recorded with some of the game's most iconic figures (including Snoop, DJ Premier, and Havoc) and released several quality mixtapes (Hazardous Life, There Will Be Blood). On Almost Famous, we get a handful of tracks recorded over the past several years. All were produced by Fatin, a beatmaker down with 9th Wonder's Soul Council crew. Lyrically, Coldchain still sounds sharp, rhyming mostly about casual gunplay, illicit business, staying lifted, his Star Trak affiliation, and enjoying the finer things in life, while displaying a smooth mix of streetwise griminess and tongue-twisting verbalism. Refreshingly brief at just nine songs, with minimal cameos (only Jean Grae, D.P., and MeLa Machinko), Almost Famous is a short but sweet reintroduction and hopefully a sign of things to come. Check out "It's Our World (Tryin' Times)," "I Got It in Cuz," and "On My Own."
