[Edit]The horns and the way Roy C arrange and mix them grab you immediately. Every cut features die-hard, Southern horns that Roy subs for backing singers, and they're warm, vibrant, and enhance the songs like a fresh coat of paint brightens a room. Roy wrote every song and the titles suggests he wasn't in the best of spirits. The title track, "I'm Working Hard for You Baby," doesn't ring of endearment but of Roy working like a mule to please an expensive, demanding woman. "Everybody's Down on Me," "Somebody Has Taken My Love From Me," and "I'm Hurting" are three heartache specials. A pleasing collection of Southern and deep soul tracks where Roy reminds you of Clarence Carter minus the chuckling and bawdy lyrics.
