In the 1970s, Ruby Braff had his most popular group, a two-guitar quartet that he co-led with George Barnes. In 1993, he revisited the format by recording with guitarists Gray Sargent and Jon Wheatley and bassist Marshall Wood. The music is similar to that played with the earlier group, except that this time both guitarists are able soloists. The cornetist always excels in sparse settings (making every note count) and he sounds quite happy playing with this swinging group. Among the more memorable selections are an emotional "It's Wonderful," "Do It Again," "No One Else but You," "Crazy Rhythm," and "Give My Regards to Broadway." Braff takes a departure on his original "Orange" by making his recording debut on piano. Ruby Braff fans will certainly enjoy this fine release.
