Details
[Edit]Before Rusty Truck's Mark Seliger made music, he was the chief photographer at Rolling Stone, shooting pictures of countless musicians, many of whom he befriended. Seliger subsequently made Luck's Changing Lanes with help from Willie Nelson, T Bone Burnett, Lenny Kravitz, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, Sheryl Crow, and Jacob Dylan (who offered up his recording studio to Seliger and band). Luck's Changing Lanes proves that Seliger also knows how to write great Americana rock songs. "Every Time" kickstarts the album with a rootsy rocker that comes off like a mix between a John Mellencamp tune and a song by The Wallflowers, and "Fool" moves under a twangy slide guitar with waltzing rhythms as Seliger's drawl confesses about the poor decisions he's made along his life's path. The album originally surfaced in 2003 under the Broken Promises moniker on the indie label Code Terra. This 2008 reissue gets the remaster treatment along with a new song, "New York Fallen Angel" which uses muted reggae tinged keyboards, slightly rastafied rhythms, and a watery pedal steel guitar making for the kind of jam that would well suit beach blanket campfire at sundown.
