[Edit]Beloved for her unique, hauntingly beautiful voice, Sade (and her group of the same name) hit the scene in London in the early '80s. Sade's debut album, Diamond Life, was released in 1984 and raced up the charts in eight different countries thanks to several hit singles (most notably "Smooth Operator"). Sade's intoxicating vocals and the band's subdued but high-quality musicianship combined to form a truly original sound that mixed elements of soul, jazz, R&B, and adult contemporary music, earning a passionate fanbase that continues to support the group over the course of six albums and 30 years. The Essential features almost all of Sade's big hits as well as some great album cuts, though there are a few questionable omissions ("Lover's Rock" and "Turn My Back on You" among them). Regardless, this is an exceptional mix showcasing one of the most bewitching voices in modern music.
