Equal parts instructional disc (of a sort) and straight-ahead blues album, Sam Mitchell plays hot slide guitar in the Robert Johnson-approved tradition, right down to the proper genre-approved instruments. But the accompanying booklet is chock full of information from Bruce Bastin on the history of slide guitar, plus Stefan Grossman's how-to list on the best approach for learning to play the style. Mitchell also checks in with a track listing that gives tunings and instruments used. A dry session that's more academia than fun.
