Details
[Edit]This out of print collection came out four years after an accident that left the honey-voiced alto, one of the great warblers of the '40s and early '50s, debilitated until her untimely death in 1974. The album revisits her first big hit, the two-sided wonder of "Foolishly Yours" and its B-side, the self-written "I Want to Be Loved (But Only By You)," first released on Manor Records in 1946. Songs from later in her career include "I Almost Lost My Mind" and a version of "Summertime" that will have you longing for time in the shade sipping ice tea on a hot July day. Suiting the era, Churchill sang smooth and easy, and was often accompanied by the Sentimentalists, the Four Tunes, and others. Additional notables include the title track, "It's Too Late" (an oooing ballad with whistling), and "She's Only Got Herself to Blame." It's way past time for some record company to issue the catalog of this pioneering vocalist — gone and almost forgotten — on CD.
