A perfect addition to the Le Grand Magistery canon, Scarboro Aquarium Club mixes folky dream pop with blippy electronica that harkens back to the great Sarah Records compilations of the early '90s. From the Belle & Sebastian sound of "FuturePop" to the more spacy "Coming Back Empty" and the Echo & the Bunnymen groove of "Drinking the Poison — Unfire," Corey W. Schmidt and company craft a gentle cloud city that's all washes of warm synths and sleepy acoustics. Poisoned turns out to be a fitting companion to Momus' most sincere work on Voyager and Toog's retro '80s pop. But the real standouts on Poisoned are the tracks with simple melodies and sweet vocals by Melissa Boraski and the Weedy Pigeons' Melanie McKay ("Sleeping Sound") — and these songs leave the more electro-centric tunes seeming a little flat.
