[Edit]Although Scott Joplin's music has mostly been performed by solo pianists, it is easily adaptable to an orchestra. This delightful LP features pianist Ralph Grierson with the Southland Stingers, a 12-piece group consisting of flute/piccolo, clarinet, two trumpets, a trombone, tuba, a string quartet, bassist Chuck Domanico and drummer Shelly Manne. The George Sponhaltz arrangements are respectful and reasonably colorful, bringing to life "Elite Syncopations," "Heliotrope Bouquet," "Something Doing" and seven other Joplin rags.
