[Edit]Bradford, Ontario's Scott Merritt produced the same type of guitar/keyboard lyrical pop for 1986's Gravity Is Mutual as he did for Serious Interference, his debut album. This time around, Merritt comes off with a firmer, more tightly-knit sound. his music accommodates his writing to a greater extent throughout the album, proven best on tracks like "Moving Day" and on the blue-collar attitude of "Overworked and Under-Privileged," which was the only release from Gravity Is Mutual. Although the single found some air time on Canadian radio (mainly Southern Ontario) and on video stations, it's charmingly awkward melody structure and stand-still chorus couldn't create any penetrable impact. Guest guitarist Adrian Belew does up the ante, though, with noticeable applications given to both "Music in the Attic" and "Lockstep." In 1986, Gravity Is Mutual made the list of 107 best albums of that year, sponsored by Toronto's largest radio station.
