[Edit]The Island of Misfit Toys features Scrid's take on noisy sludge metal, carried largely by John Svec's slow, lumbering guitar riffs and Craig Owsley's disorientated, David Yow-like howling. These two attributes in particular reveal much about the band's sound, particularly since the songwriting and lyrics seem unimportant relative to how massive Svec can make his buzzing guitar tone and how manic Owsley can make his vocals. If you love this sort of overdone, poignant sludge metal, then you might want to hunt this album down. Released on the Lincoln, NE-based indie -ismist Recordings label, Scrid's only LP may not be the easiest album to find, yet if you're curious about an Iowan interpretation of valium-tempo Black Flag/Jesus Lizard without quite as remarkable songwriting, then this album is worth the hunt.
