Where were Sea of Green when the whole grunge explosion was going down? They could have been Canada's official interpreter of the Seattle sound. But alas, it's 2001, and not 1991, and Sea of Green is just another sludgy rock band. Distortion is the name of the game here, with wah pedals, talk boxes, and oodles of other processing devices. Time to Fly contains a number of low-end tunings, where the bass and guitar are thrown down one and often two steps. In that vein, it's almost reminiscent of Nirvana's Bleach, when Kurt Cobain and friends kept tuning to each other lower and lower, never realizing how far the E-string was away from E. "Come on Down" sounds like a chance meeting on the dissecting tables of Deep Purple and early Soundgarden. Guitar solos pervade in a high feedback sort of way. Fans of Queens of the Stone Age and other good stoner rock might find this appealing.
