Details
[Edit]The prevailing theme of Bring Your Nothing is grace, expressed in a variety of settings ranging from modern folk to classic R&B. Shane & Shane build their sound around polished harmonies, acoustic-centered arrangements, and deeply reverent lyrics. In contrast to the grandiose sounds favored by many worship artists, Shane & Shane maintain an intimacy that invokes both a Saturday-night coffeehouse jam and a Sunday-morning chapel service. The album starts on a rousing note with “The One You’ll Find,” a propulsive clap-along number worthy of Mumford & Sons. The duo embellishes the title track with funky horn lines and matches “In a Little While” to a simmering shuffle groove. Shane & Shane keep the Savior at the center of each tune, whether the focus is on spiritual rebirth (“I Come Alive”), human brokenness (“Crucify Him”), or Christ’s passion and resurrection (“You Loved My Heart to Death”). Of particular note is “Without Jesus,” a call to return to the essentials of faith. Guest players Jason Hoard (Third Day), Josh Moore (Caedmon’s Call), and Tyler Chester (Fiction Family) lend their talents to help bring out Bring Your Nothing’s warm, inviting spirit.
