Details
[Edit]Loving relationships—between God and man, between parent and child—lie at the heart of Shane & Shane’s The One You Need. The Christian music duo adopts a somewhat more produced sound this time out, but Shane Everett and Shane Barnard have built their reputation on matching a scruffy musical vibe to scripturally rooted lyrics, an approach still present here. The twang-filled stomp “Liberty” and the bubbly shuffle “Future Version” are built around acoustic guitars and fervent vocals, suggesting a church coffeehouse jam. Even better in this vein is “Grace Is Sufficient,” a bluesy testimony with the feel of an old-time hymn. At the other end of the spectrum are sleek modern rock numbers like “Without Your Love” and “Lift Up the Light,” which deliver worshipful lyrics in big, boldly colored choruses. Lyrically, the title track—a father’s heartfelt prayer for his daughter—is a standout. Shane & Shane’s warm vocal harmonies and their tunes’ faith-centered content bring a unity to the album.
