On the larger scale of hardcore, these Reno, NV, natives are rather unknown. Yet Six Years in the Desert is an album which should be included in every hardcore fan's collection. Why? It is because this collection of out of print vinyl and CD releases show the spirit of diversity and potential with which hardcore was started on and the width and breadth which it is made up of today. Including Black Flag, Seven Seconds, and Sesame Street cover songs, as well as 14 other songs, Fall Silent take the roots of hardcore and combine them with sludgy chugga-chugga dance grooves. Think Meshugga meets the Locust. Or maybe a more palatable Dillinger Escape Plan. The vocals are far better than the aforementioned band's, though. Ranging from a Downset-inspired rap on "The Rulers" to a semi-high pitched scream on "The Wheel of Pain," Fall Silent is anything but what their name implies. Frankly, Fall Silent is pissed off and they really don't sound as though they're going to take it anymore. Inspired and keen, Six Years in the Desert is a remarkable album.
