[Edit]PSR&T represents the first time Simon & Garfunkel had total control over their final product. They worked closely with engineer Roy Halee, and the complex harmonies and vocal arrangements of “Scarborough Fair/Canticle” demonstrated their growing confidence. Paul Simon’s songwriting had blossomed, and several of those songs (“Patterns,” “Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall," and the Dylan parody “A Simple Desultory Philippic”) matched up well with the newer compositions, including the Art Garfunkel showpiece “For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her” and the classic “Homeward Bound.” The mix of a TV news broadcast and “Silent Night” provided social commentary that still rings true.
