Details
[Edit]This soundtrack to Mike Nichols’ film The Graduate features the music of Simon & Garfunkel and Dave Grusin. Thus began a soundtrack tradition that continues to the present of offering alternate takes and mixes of songs by popular artists along with a film’s incidental music. Nichols didn't care for Paul Simon’s new compositions beyond “Mrs. Robinson,” which appears here in two fragments. (The full version, along with the rejected “Punky’s Dilemma” and “Overs,” appear on Bookends.) So, the new S&G material here consists of those fragments, an alternate take of “The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine,” and a strong re-recording of “The Sound of Silence—Reprise.”
