Details
[Edit]On Simple Minds' fifth album, released in 1982, their musical wealth lies in the textures. Though the songs are, at times, nearly trance-inducing (yet heavily rhythmic and poppy), they’re also big and airy aural events that reveal things slowly. “Someone Somewhere in Summertime” uses heavy bass and keyboards to create soaring crescendos as Jim Kerr’s croon glides and lifts in the mix. Dancefloor stirrers such as “Promised You a Miracle,” “Glittering Prize,” and the title song use massive grooves and spare arrangements to air out traditional pop structures. The entire set is an elegant cross-pollination of Roxy Music, Lou Reed’s Berlin, and postpunk.
