In an inspiring effort to raise awareness of the perils of global climate change, activist organization Hip Hop Caucus has produced Home, a vibrant compilation of rap and R&B whose title doubles as a stirring acronym: Heal Our Mother Earth. Featuring a roster of world-class talent that includes Common, Ne-Yo, Karmin, and poet Malik Yusef, the album’s 11 songs—a mix of originals and well-selected covers—are as listenable as they are thought-provoking. On the hypnotic opening cut, “Spaceship Odyssey 2000,” Yusef joins forces with Laci Kay, Sirena Legend, Auggie Del Rey, Mandy Rain, and Joaquin Evans for a sobering reminder of the planet’s mounting environmental challenges. Elsewhere, Common lends his renowned lyrical élan to “Trouble in the Water,” a rousing call-to-action with massive martial drums and a serpentine hook.
