Details
[Edit]Mozart’s last four symphonies, composed in 1786 and 1788, represent outstanding examples of the Classical era symphony: a four-movement work consisting of a fast, dramatic opening, a slow second movement, a dance-like third movement and a rousing finale. These pieces are representative of Mozart at the peak of his compositional ability. On this 2008 recording, Sir Charles Mackerras and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra strike a keen balance between the principled approach of historical performance and the richness and clarity of a modern orchestra.
