Details
[Edit]Although Sean Morris and Nathan Vinall — Stakka and Skynet, respectively — had been involved with drum'n'bass since the early '90s, with recordings surfacing on such luminaries as Lifting Spirits and Trouble on Vinyl, it was the establishment of their own labels that really set out their agenda. As Audio Blueprint advanced with an arsenal of techno atmospherics and eerie vocal lifts, so the output of sister imprint Under Fire took a stronger dancefloor stance, roughing up the rhythm section while retaining the sci-fi edge. An album of collaborations, Clockwork saw Konflict, Ram stalwart Shimon, Friction, TeeBee, and the Usual Suspects' Keaton all stalking the vinyl with metal-plated grooves, considered atmospherics, and depressurized strings. It is the DJ Red cut that provided the standout, "Hal 9000" calmly talking arepeggiating melodics down from a ledge strewn with slivers of glass.
