Marijuana and hip-hop have been in cahoots since day one. For every Cypress Hill and Snoop Dogg, there are countless other music-making stoners promoting the ganja; they just happen to fly under the radar. A seriously funky and perpetually baked producer out of Florida, Slopfunkdust has been doing his thing for many years. Heavily involved with the Beat Fanatics and Beat Society, he's also concocted countless freaky instrumentals for a wide array of artists. On the aptly titled Smoker's Choice, he enlists the help of various talented co-producers, including KHRYSIS, Rhettmatic, Nicolay, and Illmind, to assist him with his bud-themed tracks. Every selection is titled after a designer strain of weed: "Sour Diesel," "AK-47," "Granddaddy Purp," etc., and they all live up to their names, with no shortage of tripped-out loops, mid-tempo drums, and bizarro samples. "Trainwreck" adds a head-nodding beat to the infamous 911 call from a Michigan cop who ate pot brownies and believed himself dead.
