Culling demos, rarities and outtakes from 1986-1991, Losing Touch With Your Mind shines a light on lesser known nuggets from the Spacemen 3 annals — a near-perfect compilation for anyone who found Sonic Boom’s solo material too experimental and Jason Pierce’s Spiritualized too grandiose. A remix of “Honey” opens in vividly produced psychedelic flashes. Although the alternate mix of “Walkin’ With Jesus” plays with less feedback and reverb than the version that surfaced on 1986’s Sound Of Confusion, the more decipherable lyrics give clues to just what they were singing about. You can also plainly see where bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club mined their sound and attitude. And though the cover of Red Crayola’s “Transparent Radiation” doesn’t take as many risks as the original, the Velvet Underground resurrecting title-track and the heavy drum mix of “Suicide” make up for it in spades.
