Details
[Edit]A Baltimore rapper who started his career as a hipster favorite and Internet sensation and now finds his music featured in several videogames, movies, TV shows, and even a salad-dressing commercial, Spank Rock has come a long way in five years. Everything Is Boring. . . is only his second official full-length (after his 2006 debut, YoYoYoYoYo), though he has released a grip of singles, mixtapes, and EPs as well. Sounding like the love child of 2 Live Crew, Odd Future, Prince (especially on "Baby"), and Peaches, his music is heavy on the electro-flavored beats, with lots of handclaps, glitchy sound effects, and freaky synth work. Meanwhile, the hyper-repetitive chanted choruses and tongue-in-cheek lyrics center on everything from getting his sex on ("Nasty") to dancing ("The Dance") to comedic reflections on racism ("Race Riot"). In a refreshing change from most rap music, there are hardly any guest artists, though his homegirl Santigold appears on "Car Song."
