Details
[Edit]Stanley Myers' score for the 1980 television miniseries adaptation of Ray Bradbury's classic The Martian Chronicles evokes its Me Decade origins as much, if not more, than its outer space milieu, and two decades on, it's difficult to determine which world seems more distant or bizarre. Myers balances rousing, old-fashioned adventure themes with strange, mournful flutes that nicely capture the culture clash between man and Martian — unlike so many sci-fi scores, there is real humanity and depth present throughout, as well as a profound romantic streak that further underscores Myers' unique sensibility. Airstrip One's top-notch reissue includes extensive production notes as well as a tribute by Myers protégé Hans Zimmer.
