[Edit]Denver Dalley gives his Desaparecidos project a break for Statistics, and his self-titled EP as such is an impressive, eccentric mess. The shifts in mood and tempo offer an abstract arrangement that's neither overwhelming nor plain, for Dalley's talent lies in crafting an experimental, provocative sound structure. It's also difficult to classify, and that's the beauty behind Statistics. Just when you think Dalley's going for a lush dream pop sound ("Hours Seemed Like Days"), he switches to a quirky new wave beat ("Another Day"). "A Memory" sifts through gauzy, Cure-like synths, highlighting Dalley's hypnotic frame of mind as an artist. Those who enjoyed his dalliance with Bright Eyes and Desaparecidos will appreciate Dalley's musical progression; those who are unfamiliar with his previous efforts will undoubtedly find the Statistics EP to be an amazing addition to the occasionally parched and overrated indie rock scene.
